2018 General Meeting Summary

The 2018 meeting of the ICG-EAC was held from April 15 to 20 in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, in Knoxville, TN, USA. 125 technical delegates from 13 countries, representing 55 member organizations, attended the meeting. A total of 68 technical presentations are included in the 2018 meeting minutes (46 oral, 9 special session, 8 summary/poster, and 5 tutorial presentations) plus a very interesting plenary lecture. Now being already a tradition, also this year the meeting was preceded by an excellent tutorial on “Irradiation experiment design” on the Sunday.

The technical sessions started with a summary/poster presentation session followed by ten papers dealing with EAC issues in stainless steel (plus four summary/poster presentations). During the last time-slot on Monday late afternoon the only general type of paper was presenting information on a CEN code workshop. In the five sessions dealing with non-welded Ni-base alloys, there were 16 papers (plus one summary/poster presentation), most of which dealt with the behavior of Alloys 600 or 690. On Wednesday the ICG-EAC celebrated its 40 years anniversary with an extremely interesting special session. The Group’s history and some of its major achievements were presented first. Thereafter, some regulator members, as well as some utility representatives were presenting their view on the ICG-EAC during two vivid panel discussions. Finally, Honorary Member and former Chairman Peter Ford summed up the special session with some concluding remarks. The Thursday started with six weldment type of presentations (plus two summary/poster presentations), including both, austenitic stainless and nickel-base weld metals. The low-alloy steel session contained five interesting talks dealing with weld heat-affected zone SCC, updated SCC disposition curves, specimen size effects, possible hydrogen effects on the fracture behavior, and a root case analysis of containment liner plate corrosion. The technical part of the meeting ended with eight papers (plus one summary/poster presentations) dealing with IASCC related topics, including field-related studies, crack growth rate reference curves, more mechanistic insights and preliminary results of an APT Round-Robin initiative.

The great effort of the local host (headed by Jeremy Busby, ORNL), as well as the financial support of the numerous sponsors is gratefully acknowledged! The meeting concluded with an optional technical tour visiting some outstanding facilities at ORNL.
